A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING GREENVILLE FIRE DEPARTMENT ENGINEER TOMMY BRASIER FOR HIS COURAGEOUS AND HEROIC RESCUE OF A CHILD ON AUGUST 24, 1998.

WHEREAS, on Monday, August 24, 1998, fireman Engineer Tommy Brasier of the Greenville Fire Department responded to a residential fire; and

WHEREAS, upon arrival, Engineer Tommy Brasier was told that a child was inside the burning structure; and

WHEREAS, disregarding the peril to himself, Engineer Tommy Brasier, without a hose line, entered the burning structure through a bedroom window; and

WHEREAS, in the heat and smoke, Engineer Tommy Brasier found the two-year old child; and

WHEREAS, in a dramatic scene in the stark struggle for life, a white hand grasped a black hand and the victim was pulled to safety; and

WHEREAS, through the prism of joyful tears, there was no color of skin but a rainbow of compassion, courage and heroism; and

WHEREAS, Engineer Tommy Brasier was recommended to receive the highest honor a fire department can bestow on a fire fighter, the Golden Flame Award, for his heroic, courageous and unselfish act; and

WHEREAS, the Legislature of Mississippi wishes to recognize and thank Engineer Tommy Brasier for his courageous and heroic rescue of a small child from certain death:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MISSISSIPPI STATE SENATE, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend Engineer Tommy Brasier for his courageous and heroic rescue on August 24, 1998.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution be presented to Engineer Tommy Brasier.
